Making Disclosure A Reality For Healthcare Organizations

Sorry Works! Research: Important Contributions, Exciting New Projects

Earlier this week, Sorry Works! announced the open-access publication of our study on the prevalence of disclosure and apology in the American medical school curriculum.  "Measuring the Uptake of Disclosure and Apology Content in the American Medical School Curriculum," appears in the April edition of the Journal Medical Education and Curricular Development, a Sage Journal.  This study was generously funded by MAG Mutual Foundation and a private family foundation.  Here is the open-access link

This fall (2022), Sorry Works! will launch three to four additional research projects:

  • Evaluation of medical schools that claim robust curriculum on disclosure and apology

  • Evaluation of 2nd generation apology laws

  • Surveying teaching of disclosure and apology in clinical ethics training programs.

We are also formulating additional research on how state medical boards handle cases involving disclosure and apology. Doug Wojcieszak will be discussing his paper on this topic with the Federation of State Medical Boards during a June 2022 meeting.
