Sorry Works! Research Projects
Sorry Works! is launching three (3) research projects to learn more about the disclosure and apology movement. The information gained from these projects will help healthcare leaders and policy makers.
The research projects are 1) Assessing what is being taught about disclosure/apology in medical schools; 2) Assessing what is being taught about disclosure/apology in residency programs; 3) Assessing the view of disclosure/apology by state medical boards.
With the first two projects (medical schools & residency programs) we want to measure what is being taught about disclosure in our nation's medical schools and residency programs, discover best practices, and make recommendations for uniform curriculum. As for the third project, state medical boards have been identified in the peer-reviewed literature as an impediment to disclosure and apology. Physicians are worried that apologies will make them low-hanging fruit for over-worked, under-funded state medical boards. We want to survey state medical board professionals to get their perspective on disclosure and apology and how they handle potential cases involving disclosure versus cases of cover up, stonewalling, etc.
We will need to raise funds for these research projects. I am more than happy to cobble together a bunch of small donations ($500 to $5K and higher) to fund these projects. Sorry Works! is a 501c3 non-profit, so we can accept charitable donations. I am asking the readers of this e-newsletter/blog post to provide ideas where we can seek funding.
