Free Recording Available from Disclosure, Apology, & State Medical Boards Webinar
Last week, Sorry Works! and the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) held a webinar entitled, "Disclosure, Apology, and State Medical Boards." The webinar was well attended (over 130 participants) and generated a lot of great discussion. A free recording is now available for those who could not attend. Here are the instructions and the link from FSMB:
"The recording to last week’s webinar is available at https://www.pathlms.com/fsmb/courses/43025
For anyone who has not used this platform, they will be asked to set up an account at Sign-in using their email address/username and a password. Once on the platform, select the ‘Courses’ tab at the top and scroll down until you see the following and select your webinar (the middle one)."
Again, this recording is free and available to all individuals.
The literature tells us there are many barriers to implementing disclosure, including the concern that state medical boards will view disclosing physicians as easy disciplinary targets...the proverbial low hanging fruit. Indeed, a medical malpractice insurance policy can cover a monetary claim from disclosure, but what protects a license? It's a fair and legitimate concern that has not received adequate attention or study, including how state medical boards view this issue.
Earlier this year, Sorry Works! published a study entitled, "How will state medical boards handle cases of disclosure and apology?" We surveyed state medical boards about disclosure and apology and received a lot of good information and feedback from various boards around the country.
Going forward, Sorry Works! hopes to work with FSMB and its members to conduct additional work on this important topic.
Please share this e-newsletter with colleagues and friends.
Sincerely,
- Doug
