New Paper: How Will State Medical Boards Handle Disclosure & Apology Cases?
Happy New Year to our readers and friends!
We start the New Year with a bang by announcing that yesterday, January 10th, our article on how state medical boards will handle cases of disclosure and apology was published by the Journal of Risk Management and Patient Safety. Here is the link for the preview of the article.
One of the obstacles to implementing disclosure programs (or excuses not to do disclosure) is the concern about how will state medical boards handle such cases. Doctors have long feared they will be made easy targets for overworked, understaffed medical boards under pressure from consumers and politicians. However, no one asked the boards themselves about this topic, until now. Sorry Works! surveyed the state medical boards, and this newly released paper shares the results. For a glimpse, our findings indicate state medical boards look favorably on disclosure and apology and will not make easy targets out of honest physicians, but patient safety is a priority for these boards. This is an important topic for the disclosure movement, and we encourage you to share this e-newsletter with others. Again, here is the link for the preview of the article.
Remember, Sorry Works! content is now available online through a CME-accredited course that meets patient safety requirement for certain states...here is the link for our course.
Sincerely,
- Doug
